new songs * enhanced arrangements * unplugged performances * on a cd-rom featuring photo gallery, bio, national and local press coverage, IZ sightings, screen saver and catalog The artist behind Facing Future, the top-selling Hawaiian album of all time, the late Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole was possessed of a voice so sweet, so tender, and so lovely that it continues to deeply stir those who hear it long after he died. Lovingly assembled and notated by producer Jon de Mello, Alone in IZ World is comprised of both alternate versions of Kamakawio'ole's best-loved songs as well as tracks never before heard by the public. The latter category includes versions of "Hanohano No Na Cowboy," the playfully incomplete opening on "Mona Lisa," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," on which IZ takes a rare turn at harmonizing with himself. In light of his premature passing, devastatingly beautiful alternate cuts of "Starting All Over Again" and "In This Life" are especially poignant. And "Over the Rainbow"--IZ's renditions were heard in Meet Joe Black and Finding Forrester--may never again sound so pure. --Paige La Grone
Customer Reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful Music Comment: I visited Hawaii for the first time and learned about IZ. His music is unique and so easy to listen too. I would give this CD as a gift and would recommend it to friends and family. Customer Rating: Summary: Outstanding, Beautiful, Soothing Music Comment: I TRIED to keep this CD unopened in it's new Christmas paper (a gift to me from me for December 25th! 2008). But, on this freezing, wintery Sunday afternoon, I ripped the pretty paper off to give it a spin. I found myself totally (physically and mentally) relaxed and in peaceful awe. Smiles and giggles were summoned along the tracs. He's something else!
This is my second "IZ" CD. I have "Facing Future", and couldn't imagine anything could top it. I think this one does.
I'm still spellbound ...
IZ's voice and spirit moves swiftly into the human heart, fueling one's entire body and soul with his trademark: Pure, Sweet, Quiet LOVE.
I discovered "IZ" only after Tim Russert's death ... but, he's now in my head, and heart ... forever, and ever.
Customer Rating: Summary: Iz Music Comment: Iz is an untapped talent from Hawaii who unfortunately no longer exists here on this earth, but his music will live forever. His version of Somewhere over the Rainbow is the best version that I have ever heard. Customer Rating: Summary: Alone in IZ World Comment: This man has an abosolutly amazing voice, one that allows you to sit down, relax and drift into a world of thought. Customer Rating: Summary: Alone in IZ World Comment: This is a wonderful album. Since I moved to Hawaii, its the only singer and album that I listen to. He has the voice of an angel. Too bad he didn't live long enough to hear the praises of all the people that love his music.
