With this game, Cinderella fans ages 5 and older can design their heroine's living spaces, print out especially well-decorated rooms, and experiment with a new variation on the age-old pastime of playing with dolls.
Disney's Cinderella Dollhouse is really a basic paint program posing as a watered-down version of The Sims. Players decorate Cinderella's kitchen, bedroom, and ballroom, but instead of adorning each empty space with flat images, girls choose from a gallery of interactive objects. What does this mean? Put a flute in Cinderella's hand and she will actually play it; give her a tray of cupcakes and she will offer them to everyone in the room. Adding different characters to the mix will change what they do and say. Girls can thus create scenes where the wicked stepsisters argue, or--by swapping the cast around--they can induce the Prince to make a declaration of love to Cinderella. The number of possible combinations is respectably large, and Disney provides a monthly download of additional objects to keep gameplay from getting stale.
Unfortunately, this game is something of a one-trick pony. Unlike an adult-oriented simulator, the characters' prerecorded responses to game objects are controlled by very simple rules. There are no deviations from the basic Cinderella script, girls cannot create their own characters, and ultimately, the animations don't disguise the fact that this is just another clip art gallery with new bells and whistles. Even with the game updates, older girls will outgrow the dollhouse swiftly. What's more, occasional sound glitches and a long introduction sequence--which can't be skipped--make the process of getting started tedious.
That said, the game does have appealing graphics and expands nicely on the concept of an electronic sticker book--an activity that is usually tossed into other games as a poorly executed afterthought. For younger girls who are fond of this particular fairy tale, or who have already shown that they enjoy decoration-themed programs, Disney's Cinderella Dollhouse makes a good selection. --Alyx Dellamonica Disney's Cinderella's Dollhouse is a magical place where kids canplay and decorate the dollhouse of their dreams with Cinderella and all herfriends. Customer Rating: Summary: Good little game! Comment: I bought this game for my granddaughters, and they love it. We have had it about 6 months, and they still play it regularly. It does have limited clothes and accessories, but this doesn't seem to hamper their fun. I would say this was a good buy! Customer Rating: Summary: Run away, and run away fast! Comment: We have a brand new computer with an intel processor, and windows XP, and I CANNOT get this game to install and work. It is NOT lack of system requirements. It requires Quicktime 4 to run, and seeing as I have quicktime 7.5, I begrudgingly uninstalled the better quicktime and reinstalled 4, and the darn thing STILL wouldn't work. THEN, I couldn't get 4 to get off so that I could reinstall 7.5. I had to use the system restore to fix the damage this CD caused me to do. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times, finally I have given up and have resigned myself to the fact that I purchased a $10 coaster. Customer Rating: Summary: cinderellas dollhouse Comment: My 3 year old grandaughter loved playing this game at her friends house so I purchased it for her. Unfortunately it did not work on my computer or on hers. A problem installing. The seller was very gracious and resolved the matter very quickly. As far as the enjoyment of the game her friends say it is great. Customer Rating: Summary: Daughter enjoys it but... Comment: Really neat graphics and my daughter has a lot of fun with it but I had to load it at her grandmothers house because it does not work if you have more than 1G of memory - the company sent us one that would work on our system but it's not the same and not as good. Customer Rating: Summary: dollhouse game Comment: This is a very cute game. The only draw back is its difficult to get back to the beginning. My 4 yr old likes this. Some of the characters say really funny things. It has a uniqueness to it.
