The personal Keychain securely stores all of your user IDs and passwords. Your voice--or one typed password--unlocks them all.

Mac OS 9.1 will automatically download software updates over the Internet, and even install them for you. You can also send files across the Internet with industrial-strength encryption. Apple's easy-to-use file sharing now works the same way over the Internet, so you can share files, folders, and data with anyone. And now AppleScript over TCP/IP lets you remotely control your Mac (or a whole battery of Macs) from wherever you happen to be. The network browser feature lets you find Internet file servers, FTP servers, and Web servers almost as easily as you find printers on your network.

Comment: This is an ok operating system now since there is OS X out that took over. If you still have OS 8 you should get this because it is a big jump. If you want to get OS X get 10.2 or 10.3. 10.3 is the latest. If you have a Mac OS 9 you should have 128 Megabytes that is enough for programs and files.

Comment: Although OS X has eclipsed it in terms of reliability and compatability (and largely caught up in speed), OS 9 is still a great choice if you have older hardware and don't need the most recent software. Even though it is based on the original Mac OS that was released in 1984, OS still holds its own compared to Windows. My opinon: if you have at least a 500mHz G3 or any G4, and at least 256MB of RAM, then you will be very happy with OS X (10.2 or above). If not, then 0S 9 is the way to go.

Summary: Better choice than current Jaguar
Comment: If you want to get some work done erase the forty thousand plus OSX files off your hard drive and install OS 9.2.2. There simply is no reason to let the Unix-Aqua-Next hack job hurt your productivity any more. Sure you won't be able to run a few iSofts, but none of them are complete solutions and all are riddled with oversights and nasty user interfaces.

This software works on all Macs currently sold by Apple. Unfortunately Apple is threatening to release Macs that will not run anything below 10.3. That and the huge Apple price premium should be enough to discourage the few remaining Mac loyalists into jumping ship.
