Customer Rating: Summary: Spend your time and money on a better ACT book Comment: I bought this book as it had exceptional ratings on Amazon. I used this book along with the Real ACT book, the McGraw Hill 10 Practice Tests, and Sparknotes Guide to the ACT. I found that this book was the least helpful. Many strategies they give you are intuitive; for example, spend more time on more difficult questions, pace yourself, etc. Also, most of the grammar taught in the book is nowhere to be found on a real ACT. But I have to admit that the jokes made the book more enjoyable. With the other prep books, after a certain amount of time, I would be exhausted. But with the Dummies ACT book, I sat in the chair studying the book for a longer period of time since the jokes made the subject matter more entertaining. I would have to say that this book is for those who plan to score a 26 or less. This book will not help an overachieving scorer as the information it gives is intuitive. The worst part of all were the practice tests as they were far from the same content on the real ACT.
In conclusion, this book's ratings are attributed to its humor, not to its actual ACT content. I would recommend buying a different book. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Buy! Comment: I absolutely loved this book! It was worth the money that i paid for it. I just took the ACT yesterday, and this book helped me out tons! This book is great for those of us who needs a review that is to the point. It actually gives you a review (it tells you how to actually work the problems) that is straight and to the point. I loved this book. I highly recommend it to those who are looking for a study guide for the ACT. This helped me so much on the test. Customer Rating: Summary: What you see is what you get Comment: Great book for people who don't speak "intelligent" 24/7! I feel it is comprehensive and helps you study. There is light humor to keep you awake and take interest in studying for a big test. I will take the test Sept. 14th, so hopefully all goes well! Customer Rating: Summary: A spoonful of humor helps the material go down Comment: We love the "Dummies" series for their humor and easy-to-understand qualities. What good is a prep book if your mind wanders due to boredom? My son felt this book helped him understand the subjects better than his high school classes did. After thoroughly reviewing each subject, the book had two practice tests with complete explanations in the next chapter. This really helped my son prepare for and do well on the ACT. We highly recommend it. Customer Rating: Summary: really good. Comment: I am currently reading this book, im almost done with it and I only bought it 2 days ago, the way the author writes makes you laugh and hooked to the next chapter. You can read it twice and not get bored, What I especially liked is that there is 2, 2 practice ACT tests that give you what your score would be if it was the real deal. pretty cool, so I hope I do good on the ACT, and if I do it is entireley because of this book. :)!
