As a Navy SEAL, Richard Machowicz knows about mental and physical toughness. From enduring Arctic cold with a 90-pound backpack to plummeting through the sky with a malfunctioning parachute, he's had to tough out the toughest situations, because it was either succeed or die. Now Machowicz shows readers how to achieve their most important ambitions. War is hell, but if you prepare properly for war, there's not much about life that will take you by surprise. At least, that's the premise of Unleashing the Warrior Within, in which author Richard Machowicz takes the lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL and applies them to real-life situations.
For example, in war you learn that there are three dynamic elements of combat: target, weapons, and movement. The target dictates the weapons, and the weapons dictate movement. In real life, your target is what you want; your weapons are your skills; and movement is whatever you need to get in position to use your skills.
But, since deciding upon a target is the step that's most troubling to people, he adds another wartime analytical tool called the CARVER matrix. You lay out various targets you may have in life--a better job; getting in shape; buying a new house; and taking on a new business partner, say. Then you assess the criticality, accessibility, recognizability, and vulnerability of the target, plus its effect on your overall mission in life, and the potential return on your effort.
Machowicz calls his philosophy Bukido, and when you take his classes in Los Angeles, you learn self-defense along with these life-improvement skills. In this book, the object is to get you to choose a mission that is closest and most important to you, and then achieve your goals with military precision. By the time you're through learning the seven principles of combat, what you've really learned is how to think critically and focus your efforts. Machowicz uses his students as examples of how the enemy in life is really a lack of action, allowing life to take you along for a ride. So if your current target is a solid self-improvement course, Unleashing the Warrior Within could be your most effective weapon. --Lou Schuler

Tao Cycle Therapy: Natural Happiness via Self Directed Cure for Chronic Anxiety & Depression [Updated 2008 3nd Edition] Customer Rating: Summary: Outstanding Job! Comment: This is an outstanding attempt to isolate and describe some key mental attributes integral to high performance.
The introduction alone was worth the price and the general direction of the concepts are outstanding. What impressed me the most, was the straight forward, no nonsense approach.
There are no ready made solutions here, but with some work, I found that I could easily adapt the logic to my specific requirements.
I highly recommend this book. Customer Rating: Summary: This Book Gives You Action Steps, Not Just Theory Comment: I bought the updated edition of "Unleash the Warrior Within" to give as gifts but couldn't help thumbing through it. I love the idea that we are all warriors. What separates Mack's book is that he gives usable techniques instead of just theory. His website http://www.ndcq.com has tools to put these in action. Well done.

http://www.louismgreen.com Customer Rating: Summary: A New Way To Finding Personal Success Comment: Author Richard "Mack" Machowicz has successfully transformed what he has learned from his years spent as a US Navy SEAL with making a success out of the rest of your life. His book "Unleash The Warrior Within" is not a book for the lazy of the world. He asks the reader to use personal discipline, courage and focus in order to achieve whatever goals that they have in their lives - be it personal, or business related. His words are strong and clear and carry lots of confidence. It is evident that he is able "to walk his talk" as he takes readers through many of the pit falls of life.
The seven principles outlined in his book deal with building from within first before building outwards. He tackles the basic fears that stop most people and he gives the reader a set of tools to use to focus and find courage. The book is really a kind of survival guide, if one truly wanted to use it to accomplish their goals. The basic ideas are sound - but certainly not for the weak of spirit or mind.
This book would make a great graduation gift for those getting out of school and entering the real material world. The Military Writer's Society of America (MWSA) gives this book its highest rating of FIVE STARS. I also give this book my personal endorsement. This book should be read by all those who wish to be successful at whatever they are doing in life!
