Editorial Review:

The ancient holy texts are missing.
The death of the world approaches.

Six extraordinary men have shared one vision of a black tower and a river of blood. Somewhere in the desert wastelands of America, the ultimate battle will be waged. The greatest experiment in evil since the beginning of time is under way, with all humanity its designated sacrifice.

The future is in the hands of the Six.

Summary: good story
Comment: I just finished the 6 Messiahs. I was a little skeptical when I first started reading it; it seemed a little cheezy comparatively speaking to the List of Seven (total stunner, love that book). But after getting through that initial hurtle, the story began to pick up. I thought the ending, again, a little cheezy, but seemed to fit at least with regard to the Sparks brothers. The story lines were well intertwined and the climax of the book was full of surprises, action, and explanations. Not quite as good as the first book, but I would still recommend reading it.

Summary: Review of The Six Messiahs
Comment: The Six Messiahs, sequel to The List of Seven, follows the (fictional) fortunes of Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle and the man who provided the inspiration of the famous literary detective, Jack Sparks.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the prequel, with in-depth and meaningful characterisation - some characters from the previous book return and new ones are created. There is a great combination of history, humour, fantasy and horror, along with some detailed information about the Kaballah faith.

I found that the ending galloped to a sudden halt, however, and readers are advised to read The List of Seven first to get a better understanding of the characters in The Six Messiahs.

Summary: This is a great sequel!
Comment: In looking at some of the reviews here there seems to be an element of wistfulness for the List of Seven and an opinion that this is not as good as novel as it's precursor. I was fortunate enough to wait two years between reading the two, so while I can agree that this may not be as good as the List of Seven, which was a six-star book in my opinion, this is still a great, wonderful, compelling, and extraordinarily fun read. It's definitely still a five-star book in it's own right and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. If you have read List of Seven, then keep on going and read this one too. It's full of occult forces, evil organizations, weird magic, weirder heroes, and our good old Arthur Conan Doyle, 15 years older and now a successful and world famous author. If you haven't read the List of Seven, then for pity's sake man, order it today and set aside a day for some wonderful fun.

In the Six Messiahs, AC goes to America for a book signing tour and promptly gets swept up into a shocking and bewildering murder mystery on the German cruise liner that is ferrying him to the States. He reconnects to Jack, the secret agent, who is not himself and strangely withdrawn, sullen, and distant (probably the primary reason most people didn't like this sequel as much.) Upon reaching the States they are swept up into a mystery regarding the thefts of the world's most sacred religious tomes and must journey, along with several holy people, to the American Southwest to confront a strange cult and try to reccover the tomes. Many of the original cast of the List of Seven return, but as in real life, they are not quite the people they were fifteen years ago, for better or worse. This novel ties up the loose ends left in the first and is a very satisyfing and exceptionally fun read. Ignore the nay-sayers, you will enjoy this book too. If you finish this one and want more stories of AC Doyle battling the dark forces of the occult, make sure to get Thomas Wheeler's "The Arcanum". It's great read in a similar vein as this one.

Summary: not so bad, not so good
Comment: i enjoyed "the list of seven" so much that i rushed out to find "the six messiahs". i am disappointed because the story is not as interesting as "seven". it starts off promising, but sort of loses itself and starts to prattle along. the story lacks intensity and tries to develop too many characters, thus making man of the characters uninteresting. then, it just sort of ends - i wonder if there is a "five" book in the works? probably not as it has been nearly ten years.... it's worth a read, but you're not missing much if you pass it by.

Summary: An entertaining sequel
Comment: Though not as grabbing as the first novel, The List of Seven, this is still an fun and entertaining read. With the assistance of 5 other fun characters, Conan and an ally from his past join forces to battle a growing evil. With characters such as "the most dangerous man in the world", Frost once again entertains the reader with some exciting personalities.
